Things to Do

The Phoenix Mountains Preserve is a calming oasis in the middle of the Phoenix city life. The preserve is surrounded by development and contains some of the largest city parks on the Earth. Here, one can enjoy a slice of the Arizona-painted desert. Piestewa Peak, the second-highest point in the Phoenix Mountains (after Camelback Mountain) and the third-highest in the city of Phoenix, is named after Lori Ann Piestewa, a soldier who died in combat. This mountain has special meaning for the locals. Tackle this hike and reap the rewards of the all-encompassing, gorgeous sunset views and incredible city skyline. Nearby is Dreamy Draw Recreation Area, a mile-and-a-half bike path. While Phoenix frequently has 100-plus-degree heat, this trail is still enjoyable as it whips through shady areas and around boulders. In addition, those who love to play in nature can appreciate the 68 acres of the natural recreational park at the base of Daisy Mountain.

Complementing the breathtaking natural attractions is an engaging roster of events in town. Highline Autos presents its jubilant Cars and Coffee event on the first Saturday morning of each month. With a draw of about 10,000 attendees, the packed event has spectacular vehicles to please any eye. The show includes classic cars, multimillion-dollar machines, and Japanese domestic cars, among numerous other varieties. Spectators can stop at nearby restaurants such as The Boozy and The Stir Coffee Bar to fuel up for the event.

Another unique attraction is Tombstone, Arizona, known as “The Town Too Tough To Die.” Founded in 1877, visitors often feel like they’ve stepped back into the Wild Wild West. Reenactments of gunfights, stagecoach tours, old saloons, and cowboys walking around are all part of the thrilling experience.

The area offers the Blue Martini, Copper Blues, and The Whining Pig for live entertainment. Copper Blues offers visitors top-40 and rock bands to party to, along with a more relaxed beer garden area that makes conversation and familiarity possible. The Whining Pig serves a wide selection of craft beer, games, and good times.
